NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has identified a previously unknown impact crater on the Moon.
The crater's diameter is larger than that of the Roman Colosseum, and it formed from a powerful impact about two years ago that initially went undetected.
Scientists examined high‑resolution LRO images and spotted the fresh impact site by detecting changes in the lunar regolith.
The finding underscores that the Moon remains an active target for micrometeoroids and larger objects, even when such events are first overlooked.
