NASA announced the selection of three new scientific investigations and their associated payloads, aimed at advancing our understanding of the Moon and facilitating the development of the first human lunar base, known as Moon Base.
The agency also noted that the name of the DISCO payload was corrected on September 30, 2026. This update ensures accurate identification of the instrument suite that forms part of the selected investigations.
The investigations are designed to gather data on lunar geology, resource availability and environmental conditions. Such information is considered essential for planning a sustainable human presence on the Moon.
According to NASA, the chosen payloads represent a key step toward building the technological and scientific foundation required for Moon Base. Further specifics about each instrument will be released in the coming months.
